FALL 2024 SEASON

Welcome to RYA 2024 Co-ed Spring Flag Football season. We are a non-contact flag football league designed for boys and girls grades 1st -12th. **A player’s football grade is determined by the 2024/25 season** Teams are grouped by grade divisions. In an effort to keep the league fun and attempt to create a competitive balance – the league will hold player assessments prior to the formation of teams. It is important that every player attend the assessment. Coach/Team and Carpool requests will be considered but not promised. All teams will practice once a week for no more than 1.5 hours; which is followed by one game on Saturday. Assigned game times and game location remain the same for the length of the season.

Please be sure to register your child in the appropriate division in the above drop down box. Again, your child’s football grade is based on their grades in the 2024/25 school season

WHATS IS FLAG FOOTBALL

Flag football is a version of American Football where, instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must remove a flag or flag belt from the ball carrier to prevent them from advancing the ball or scoring a touchdown.

Reston Flag Football is a recreational sports league based in Reston, Virginia, designed for individuals of various age groups and skill levels to enjoy the game of flag football. Here are some key aspects of the league.

1. Inclusive and Community-Oriented:

  • For All Ages: Reston Flag Football offers divisions for children and teenagers, ensuring that everyone from young kids to high schoolers can participate.
  • Community Focused: The league emphasizes building community connections and fostering a fun, friendly, and inclusive environment.

2. Non-Contact Sport:

  • Safety: Unlike traditional tackle football, flag football is a non-contact sport where players pull flags from the ball carrier’s belt instead of tackling them. This reduces the risk of injury and makes the game more accessible to a wider range of participants.

3. Skill Development:

  • Learning the Game: For younger participants, the league provides an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of football, including passing, catching, and route running.
  • Advanced Play: For more experienced players, the league offers competitive play, helping to hone advanced skills and strategies.

4. Seasonal Play:

  • Organized Seasons: The league operates in seasons, typically running in the fall and spring. Each season includes regular practices, games, and playoffs.
  • Events and Championships: At the end of each season, there are usually championship games or tournaments, adding an exciting competitive element.

5. Volunteer and Coaching Opportunities:

  • Community Involvement: Parents and community members can get involved as coaches, referees, and volunteers, contributing to the league’s operation and success.
  • Training and Support: New coaches and volunteers often receive training and support to ensure they are well-prepared to guide and mentor the players.

6. Registration and Participation:

  • Easy Sign-Up: Registration for the league is typically available online, with options for individual or team sign-ups.
  • Inclusivity: The league encourages participation from people of all backgrounds, emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play.

Overall, Reston Flag Football is a vibrant and dynamic sports league that promotes physical activity, skill development, and community engagement through the enjoyable and accessible game of flag football.
